| the fifth was spirit night at my school. i hung at sam's house and chill for a while, where, as tradition, she gets to doll me up once per year. last year, my classmates threw a fit about how "absolutely styling" i was, along with "cute" and "so pretty". i actually get rather uncomfortable with all the ruckus, but i manage nonetheless. all dolled up, spirit night was actually rather relaxed this year compared to last year's. there weren't as many people and the whole atmosphere a more lazy. i definitely had more of a blast my freshman year, but i attribute that to the considerable less stress and exhaustion i had to cope with that year of my life. oh fond memories. the theme was decades and it went: 70s senior, 80s junior, 90s sophomore, and 2000s freshman. while the sophomore class did a good job (with some killer renditions of yugioh cards), i gave my kudos to the seniors and juniors who really blew the competition away. the seniors had some truly amazing murals, an out of this world smurf house, and a really impressive tank symbolizing the vietnam war. the freshman's decorations weren't very good at all (my class last year had really fantastic decorations courtesy of a really outstanding council) but that's pretty much normal i guess.
the sixth was stephanie's birthday, but she was busy so she pushed her party to saturday night. for her present, we bought her the pokemon mystery dungeon explorers of sky game and a vanity smurf figurine. i think she really liked the presents. sam and i hung at the mall for that afternoon, having what i call and economic date, which consists of the following ingredients: 1 grande drink at starbucks (i get the white chocolate mocha, iced) $3.95 and sitting in barnes and nobles reading magazines, manga, and books to pass time. i read several books on the upcoming disney's princess and the frog film and a manga called Tekeru. to save more money, eat at home. of course, her mom saved my stomach by treating me to a wonderful japanese dinner. sam slept over that night.
seventh was my high school's 40th anniversary carnival. it was in the morning, so it was chilly. the actualy carnival itself was alright. nothing too special. the turnout wasn't so great, but then again, the attractions weren't stellar either. so it's a direct relationship i perhaps. sam got a balloon flower from this very awesome man on stilts. he blew bubbles for the kids as well. my friend's friend lost $10 and sam found it on the ground at random. what fantastic luck! there was a booth where you could dunk your teachers in a tank of water if you could aim correctly. i tried dunking both my math teachers from my freshman year (whom i love dearly, to clarify) and my current APUSH teacher. I got vengeance against latter for all the stress, failed grades, and late nights by getting to physically flip the switch, plunging her into the water. revenge is most definitely sweet.
that same night around 6, i went to stephanie's house to celebrate her birthday. her mom made okonomiyaki, grilled chicken, and salmon inari. we had mint-chocolate ice cream cake afterwards. it was all intensely delicious. my mouth buds had a feast that night. we slept over and had a wonderful breakfast the next morning of scrambled eggs, sausage, takoyaki, french bread, fruit, and orange juice. we watched smurfs afterwards. sunday was rest day. marissa came over and since mark was sick with the flu, we made his "star of the week" poster. it was actually really fun to do. i drank green tea all day and watched tv and relaxed. it was wonderful. i read horror mangas as well. of course my joy pretty much ended there. school monday was a killer and tuesday i had some severe ear problems. my right ear became all inflamed and started bleeding and creating puss. i couldn't hear out of that ear and thought it might be congested earwax. so at first i tried the good old q-tip method. when that didn't work, i attempted to use earwax drops, but that only made the problem worse and now i was completely deaf in my right ear and every time i moved my jaw, it stung like nothing else. i figured if i slept on it, the problem would reverse itself. wrong. this morning i woke to some incredible ear pain and ended up going to the doctor's office where, with my mom, i had my ear continuously blasted with warm water and hydrogen peroxide in the hopes of "flushing out" the problem. after two hours of flushing, several containers of water/hydrogen peroxide solutions later, and a feeble try at physically pulling the beast out, my doctor was finally able to remove the foul thing from my ear. it was such a joy to be able to hear again. the moment i could feel the water in the far end of my ear canal, i nearly rejoiced in tears. to be quite honest, my ear canal is not used to such prodding and blasting and general attention, so this whole ordeal was very physically painful. but i don't care, i'm just happy its out. i had some major earwax in there. it was not one or two large chunks, but several and a whole mess of smaller bits and pieces too. i didn't even known one ear could house so much junk. afterwards, i tried standing and was so dizzy i quite literally fell to the floor, bringing down with me a couple of chairs and nearly a person. after the two hour torture, i had to go to school (on my day off!) and film a chinese project with james, katherine, and tienny. but it was finished in 4 hours and i think we did a pretty good job. i'm happy we finished. i'm exhausted, but satisfied with a stomach full of wahoo tacos and enchiladas. i'll go have me some wine chicken in an hour or so. now its time for more homework. blasted. quarter grades are in. i, as always, barely managed to squeeze by the border with all a's. i'm thankful but equally as nervous. so close, so close to the edge. happy veterans' day! remember the fallen . kristine | | |

| on saturday, tom, my mom, mark, and myself got up early and dressed up in our halloween costumes to go to the pumpkin patch. i'm the cat in the hat this year. i have a full body jumpsuit, completely with the hat and white gloves.
exactly, actually complete with my house cane and some black whiskers and i think its a fine costume. my mom was a witch and my baby bro was a full body skeleton. we went to the local farm owned by this japanese family (last name, tanaka). it was amazing. for there to be a 30 acre produce farm in the middle of a large suburb, that's fascinating enough! i always loved farm scenery. when we got there, we had to pull up on a dirt road out some ways until we reached a small parking lot. there, you enter the farm and as far as the eye can see, there are fields and fields of pumpkins! surrounding the huge tracts of pumpkin fields are banana trees, squash, watermelon, corn, fruits, berries, and chili fields. we got to take a wooden wagon pulled by a tractor around the farm, where the dirt road makes for a very shaky ride. the staff was all very friendly. I've never seen real banana trees before.
the air was so clean and crisp. it was a wonderful, wonderful day. my greatest wish in life is to live the simple country life and own a nice farm.
I saw 21 for the first time yesterday. the actor who plays ben campbell in insanely gorgeous. white men will prove to be my downfall, i swear to it.

| funny thing, sophomore year. there's less homework (meaning i hardly ever bring home any binders, notebooks, or textbooks) but there seems to be more work. time in class just feels more strenuous than those of freshman year. the days are shorter but the week feels longer.
what a funny thing, sophomore year.

(p.s. why hasn't murakami drawn gravitation ex track 78 yet? i think nearly a year and a half is more than enough time to finish another chapter. what a bummer)
